Finding one's place within changing labour markets
Unn-Doris Karlsen Bæck og Gry Paulgaard (red)
"The younger generations represent the future of any society. Knowledge about young peoples's living conditions, experiences and adaptions is key for facilitating new visions for the future. In times of economic downturn young people are especially vulnerable on the labour market, and throughout Europe, youth unemployment is currently on the rise.
"Rural Futures? Finding one's place within changing labour markets" is a result of an extensive research project highlighting the situation of young people in relation to labour market, education and place of residence in the High North. The book documents young people's actions and choices - or the lack of choices - in this regard.
Empirically the studies are located in the northern parts of Russia, Finland, Sweden and Norway, but the questions addressed are highly relevant irrespective of geographical location. The book shows that even though local labour markets are affected by overall economic fluctuations, global changes affect regions differently, leading to uneven regional development and thus uneven opportunities for young people."
