ScanLex - An Inter-Scandinavian Lexicon

As a part of ScanDiaSyn an inter-Scandinavian lexicon will be developed to facilitate searches in the database. The material in the database will be processed on the basis of transcriptions to the various written standards in the area (Danish, Faroese, Icelandic, Norwegian, and Swedish). An interlingual lexicon will make it possible to write queries in any of the varieties and get results from the all of the varieties. English will also be included in the ScanLex word lists to make the database accessible for the non-Scandinavian community of researchers. A more detailed project description (in Norwegian) can be found here.

The ScanLex subproject is administered by the ScanDiaSyn group in Oslo. The subproject has so far received partial funding from the Nordic Language Council (‘Nordens Språkråd’) for 2005, and the project group cooperates with Nordisk Netordbog, a Nordic consortium which has been established by the same council to develop a Scandinavian web dictionary. The results of the ScanLex subproject will be made available for purposes outside of the ScanDiaSyn database.

Contact person for issues related to the ScanLex subproject is Janne Bondi Johannessen.
