– Dear Nepalese students. We express our deepest sorrow over the heavy losses of lives in the earthquakes that struck Nepal. Our thoughts are with you and your families, said Rector of UiT, Anne Husebekk.

Coming together to share the company of others, and to pay respect to the victims, can sometimes help at situations like this. The university and the counselling centre would therefore like to invite you all to come together to the silent room in Teorifagbygget, House 1 on Thursday 30 April at 1pm. Staff from the university and the counselling centre will be present, to pay our respect and to be available for you if you need someone to talk to.

Should any of you be in acute need for help or for someone to talk to before this, you are welcome to contact the Student Counselling Centre for appointments; e-mail: counsellor@samskipnaden.no phone: 776 49 056

The Department of Academic Affairs, through the International Office, is now coordinating efforts with the Student Counselling Centre at the Arctic Student Welfare Organisation of Norway, our various faculties and other students organization on campus to help our Nepalese students in this difficult moment. We welcome any inquiries concerning where to get help concerning private counseling or academic related-matters through our email: international@uit.noIf you need to postpone your examination, please send your application to the international academic coordinator at your respective faculty.

At the moment, there are 34 students from Nepal at UiT.

– Our major concern was to initially find out whether we had students in Nepal affected by this disaster, secondly to find out whether our Nepalese had been affected by this tragic disaster, said Deputy Rector of UiT, Wenche Jakobsen.
