Telemedicine - Health
The “Health” field of study

| Wound counselling |
The “Health” field of study focuses on the implementation and use of telemedicine and e-health systems in complex health organisations. Key questions asked will be: How to create sustainable systems and services, and how to spread them across dispersed health organisations. Consequently, the interplay between technology and the organisation is crucial to understand.
During the study, the students will have close collaboration with Norwegian Centre for Telemedicine(NST). Personnel from the Centre will present real telemedicine projects as part of the courses and the students will get individual contacts with its employees.
We have also ongoing research collaboration with many Norwegian vendors of health-based systems, such as DIPS ASA, Well Diagnostics AS, Clinsoft (Partus), Siemens medical, Profdoc as and Visma unique. DIPS ASA partly finances a PhD student on nursing plans and Well Diagnostics partly finances a PhD student on electronic laboratory requisitions. These are both part of Tromsø Telemedicine Laboratory(TTL).
The programme has an empirical foundation. The master’s thesis is to be based on interviews and observation of participants of real health practices, preferable from the students’ own work-background and experience. Students may focus on systems they have used in daily practice, for instance electronic patient records (EPRs), nursing plans, laboratory systems, surgery planning modules, telemedicine systems etc.
Moreover, for foreign students we have found it particularly useful to let the students own background serve as a basis for the master’s thesis in order to improve the relevance of the learning process.
If you have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent approved education in health related educations we would be pleased to receive your application. Potential candidates may be (but not limited to): nurses, physicians, bioengineers, physiotherapists, radiographers, pharmacists, occupational therapists.
