Rocks Cluster Management Toolkit receives 2 new awards

HPCwire, the publication of record for high performance computing, has announced the winners of the 2005 Reader's and Editors Choice Awards.

NPACI-Rocks the Cluster Management toolkit developed by UCSD and where UiT is a contributor and responsible for the PBS-roll received two new awards.

Snowstorm Upgraded

Tuesday, September 20th, the Snowstorm cluster was upgraded from 1 Teraflop to 2 Teraflops by doubling the number of nodes from 49 to 99 nodes.

SCI Interconnect Installed

February 21th, 2005
Thursday, February 17th, a high speed interconnect was installed on 25 of the Snowstorm cluster nodes in Tromsų. This means that 100 Itanium2-processors are interconnected through Dolphin SCI, while the rest of the system will be connected through Infiniband.

New Teraflop Supercomputer to Tromsų

November 7th, 2004
At 14:00 on Wednesday November 10th, Norway`s first 64-bit Teraflop cluster was installed at the University of Tromsų. In less than 4 hours the HPC-group at UiT had upgraded the system from 100 Gigaflop to 1 Teraflop. The installation was broadcasted live on the Internet, and was watched by over 750 people

A national Supercomputer day was held during Forskningsdagene on September 26th. A number of activites at the HPC-centers were aimed at pupils from videregående skoler all over the country.
