e-course Teaching and supervising international students (e-TSIS)

Six hundred new international students will join UiT – The Artic University of Norway in the autumn semester 2015. Already one out of ten bachelor/master students at UiT is an international student. Only the University of Oslo and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences in Ås have more international students than our university does. However, UiT is catching up quickly, as in 2014 its number of international students doubled, having thus the highest increase in Norway. Moreover, three out of ten PhD candidates are international candidates, while two out of ten in the academic personnel are also international. Are you ready for the challenge of teaching, supervising and working with more international teachers and students? Are we all prepared to work together in a highly international environment?

In a flexible learning environment, the participants will discover and practice strategies of becoming more effective teachers and supervisors in a international educational environment. As a participant, you will find answers to some of the questions that you might be asking yourself when faced with the multi-cultural classroom or the multicultural supervision situations, as for example:

  • What are the teaching and supervision needs and expectations of international students?
  • How can I build on my previous knowledge and experience so that I become better at teaching and supervising these culturally and linguistically diverse students?
  • How can I transform the challenge of having international students into a mutual learning experience?
  • 3 weeks, 3 modules, 3 levels of interactivity and difficulty. Whether you like to study alone or in groups, this e-course provides you the possibility of adapting your learning to your personal style and individual needs. All the learning material and activities are on-line, so you can access them anytime you want. Workload: minimum 3 hours per week.
