Rethinking Computer Systems
The set of two lectures will explore the thesis that the proliferation of manycore processors in computer systems fundamentally changes almost everything having to do with the design, implementation, testing, applications and evaluation of these systems. Observations and examples of problems faced with algorithms, programming languages, compilers, and operating systems support for manycore-based systems will be given. Because multiple answers to the query, "Will the underlying support environments dictate the nature of the systems architecture or will the systems architecture dictate the nature of the underlying support environments?", manycore systems with be quite diverse. Reconfigurability is emerging as an integral design goal in manycore systems.
