The story behind the logo

4300 - 3300 BC, ancient hunters painted dramatic images from their lives on to rock faces in north Norway. The purpose of these paintings remains unknown, but the mysterious artworks have withstood the test of time. Today they are some of the oldest evidence of settlement in the country and one of the few norwegian sites to be featured on UNESCO’s World Heritages list

The figures carved into the rock surfaces are signs, metaphors and symbols from an age before books or copyrights. Some portray rituals while others narrate what might be a mythological drama or even historic events. It is the story of the hunt, of war and worship. Some clearly depict forgotten rituals, sacrifice and rites of passage. Others again might have been used to teach tribe members about hunting techniques, religion and history. In many ways the symbols carried the identity of the tribe from one season to another and from one generation to the next. This continued throughout the centuries until one day their story became our history. . . .
