Barents Euro-Arctic Region Working Group for Education and Research
Background
The regional working group on Education and Research (WGER) was re-established by the Barents Council in 2001 after a few years without a working group in this field. All the 13 member counties of the BEAC have one representantive in our working group.
The mandate of the WGER states that it shall- work as a consultative body for the Regional Committee and the Regional Council
- respond to questions of principal interest submited by the Regional Council
- initiate projects within its field.
Each county has the responsibility for covering expenses for the participation of their representatives in the working group. Project funding will have to be applied for to different funding institutions.
An annual progress report shall be presented to the Regional Council.
The WGER has discussed the name of the working group and agreed to focus on higher education only as the whole education system would be too broad a perspective. Also, the Russian name of the working group states higher education.
Work in progress
a) The WGER is part of the Interreg III B application
b) The WGER is undertaking an inventory of the cooperation within higher education and research in the BEAR
c) The WGER is working to facilitate Russians participation in the Bologna process.
