ISA offers study programs for bachelor’s degree and master’s degree. In addition we educate Ph.D candidates and give higher- and post education courses with a focus on cultural understanding and communication.
Social anthropology is the study of the global diversity of cultures, and the social processes that develop in this diversity. We try to show how societies are organized differently, and how social organization is connected to how human beings perceive and conceptualize their surroundings. That means that there are almost no limits to which topic or place in the world a social anthropologist can study. However, it is the theoretical and methodological tools that form the core of the discipline.
Institute of Social anthropology at the University of Tromsø teach the central topics that are common for the discipline in Norway. In addition we have special competence on ethnicity, minority and indigenous research, processes of change with special attention to social categorization and identity formation, and communication through film.
The links to the left give the headlines for the information on our home page. Go the right margin to find which topics that are elaborated under each headline.
