Comparative perspectives on state codification of indigeneity and access; cases of remote area dwellers and other historically marginalised populations.
Sidsel Saugestad will look at the case of Botswana and Rwanda and compare along two dimensions:
The similarities in the western, colonial (and neighbouring tribes’) stereotypes about small peoples (San, Twa) , -
and the problems that modern, presumably democratic systems have in finding a terminology that recognise these peoples as special cases, without specifically saying so.
Or to put it differently, is there a pattern in the euphemisms, paraphrases, circumlocutions, that are being used? I will give some data, you will help to find the answer.
