Predictors of change in children and adolescents with emotional disorders. Results from a multi-center study of three Child and Adolescent Outpatient Clinics in Norway.
The research project is part of a multi-center study including three child and adolescent psychiatric outpatient clinics pertaining to the University Hospital of Northern Norway. The main research question is: Which child and family modalities predict change in children and adolescents with emotional disorders during the treatment process?
The study is conducted in a naturalistic setting. The sample comprises 300 patients between 5 to 18 and their parents, treated at three different outpatient clinics. In addition, information will be obtained from the patients` teachers and clinical staff. The study includes repeated measurements at three different times during the treatment process: 1) At referral, 2) during the assessment phase, and 3) six months after initiation of the contact.
Information about treatment outcome is collected by means of three standardized measures: The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), Health of the Nation Outcome Scales for Children and Adolescents (HoNOSCA) and Children’s global assessment scale (C-GAS). Information about diagnostic assessment, the treatment process and other relevant information is collected from the electronic medical record system.
