Collective memory, trauma healing and literature, indigenous literatures of North America, African American literature and culture, American life narratives, literature and the land, 19th and 20th century gender studies, short fiction.
In progress: A series of interrelated articles that develop trauma as an analytical lens for exploring the interconnections between literature, psychological healing, and the ethics and politics of testimony and witnessing in late 20th century/early 21st century America. The project includes but is not limited to post-9/11 writing. In it I examine recent fiction, poetry, and hybrid forms by writers such as Nicole Krauss, Jonathan Safran Foer, Toni Morrison, Sherman Alexie, Joan Didion, and Dorothy Alison.
